Terrain:Tents and Shanty Buildings

For a long time now, for various games, I have wanted to create some tents and sort of shanty buildings. Mainly to use in Saga, D&D, Kings of War etc, the uses are many.

So I started putting together just that, the impetous being that I had a D&D game coming up where the PC's would be infiltrating a goblin encampment. 

I have no money, so all these were made from items I already had knocking about the house or specifically in my box of modeling components. In other words stuff I have horded over many years.

These tents are constructed from, cereal box card, cat food box card, tooth picks, sand, wood glue   and wound dressing material.

The shanty buildings, I imagine the goblins using these as they are more haphazard than the tents, have a few extra materials thrown in: namely matchsticks, skewers and coffee stirrers. 

Back to the tents and the wound dressing material has been added. I didn't try to get a really even look here as I wanted them to look worn and a bit rough. I tore a bit off, well cut actually, and pasted it on with PVA and a brush. Just like you would apply papier mache, it created some nice lumps and folds, just what I wanted.

If you look closely you can see pegs to hold the tent in place, these I made from toothpicks and glued in place with superglue sprinkled with Bi-carb to solidify. Word of warning, if you do this work in a well ventilated area, its how Luke burnt his face that time.

Painting next, looking forward getting these finished and played with.

Mortal Gods: First Game

Last Wedneday Luke and I were very lucky to get the chance to play Mortal Gods on the brand new board we had made for the game.

If you visit the Mortal Gods/War Banner stand at shows next year you'll see the board being used as its touring with them. Mainly because it was made for them by Luke's APS.

Here are some pictures I took on the night of the game, there were 6 of us playing while Andy Hobday adjudicated the rules and gave us tips on play.

It was great fun to play and when the full rules are released in March I will be getting myself a set and will be doing some reports at various times.

We were set running in the end by a very neat use of a character in the flank and a frontal charge by the oppositions experienced Hoplites which exposed our leader to being mnipulated into a combat he could not win. Well not with me throwing the dice anyway:-)

At the last our Promochoi was dispatched by the rival warbands leader and the game was lost.

Shame its a bit out of focus.

We had a great night, lots of fun and very good company. I have to say thank you to Chris, Andy Mark and Vince for making us feel so welcome, cheers fellas.

Mortal Gods

I have been putting together a skirmish force for the new Mortal Gods game from War Banner/Footsore Miniatures which I believe will be coming out early next year. Its an Ancient Greek skirmish game, knew there was a reason I had bought all those Foundry Greeks 15 years ago.
Has taken me a bit longer than I was expecting, things keep getting in the way, but recently I've really got stuck into them.
The bases are all hand made from card, glue and PVAcrete, see the WIP pictures below.

Recently altered the shield design throughout the army. I used an indelible pen to draw the extra bits of design. As you can see from the middle hoplite below, he was the first, I made the mistake of using too thick a pen. Some repainting to do there.

Was happy with the rest however.

Still a bit of work to do on these but hopefully will be complete before Xmas.

This is the board we've been making at Luke's specifically for Mortal Gods, will be nice to get a chance to play on it at some point. Will be delivering it to War Banner this week.
