Tree Stumps, we all want them...

Over a year ago now, possibly even 2 years ago I sculpted myself some stumps which I found very useful. However I gave half of them to my little lad for his games as part of a box of terrain for his D&D games. 

So I had a load missing and needed to create some more. This time I decided not to use old pencils as the base, mainly because I wanted them to be thicker, more substantial.

So I used some cat food box card (cfbc) to create some tubes, glued them to a base with a hot glue gun and got ready to apply Das and PVA. 

I applied a thin coat, then went back and added another but this time worked the details into it.

Wood grain! who would have thought it?

So a while later with several waits for stuff to dry this is where we are.

Next post I will be returning to the shop/cottage/townhouse facades.

Revamped Dungeon/Ruined Walls

Quite a while back now I realised that the wall sections I have made for D&D were really quite limited in their use and that they didn't really look that interesting,

So in order to remedy this I have been hacking and sticking the originals into new and more interesting shapes.

I've also created right angled pieces to suggest corners of buildings or ruins as needed.

Then I've been working over the card with PVA and sand which really toughens them up,

With the addition of doors these new walls are far more flexible and I've already used them in a game.

Here is the original wall, very plain.

Then cut and glued into shape. 

Finally, as far as modelling goes, the addition of stone work texturing really brings the walls together.

To make the brick work I literally spread the PVAcrete onto the wall with a tool, then marked into it whilst still wet with another sharper tool and stuck on the top of the radiator to set.

These I built a while back for Frostgrave, they will be getting the PVAcrete treatment shortly.

Sculpts of Tables and Crates

Found I had a load of WIP shots of the tables and crates I sculpted for my son for Christmas. Thought they might be interesting to see how each were constructed, so here they are. 

Basically they are based on foam board overlaid with Das/PVA mix.

Tables simply made in same fashion.

With all these I sculpted them in parts, meaning I did the tops to all the tables then the legs etc, I did not try to complete one table at a time. Drying stages are important so that you can handle the model during the next stage without scrubbing all the details previously added.

So for a long time non were complete, then all of a sudden they were all finished in the same pass, Patience is the key.

Must admit that if I make any more tables I will be looking to make a more complicated, realistic looking design. But these do work in game well and good.

Only one had a latch and edges, didn't seem necessary, so never bothered with the rest.

D&D: Temple Terrain

This is the completed Temple I've been making for my son, 8 columns, 2 altars, main plinth and 4 sets of steps.

What I like about this set is the variety of set ups you can make from these few pieces of terrain.

So here are a low of photos of just a few of the set ups I have thought of.

Back to standard to finish with. I was surprised just how many variations I could get from the pieces, now to make myself a set :-)
