Four Against Darkness: Actual Tiles, or why do I bother drawing stuff?

Following on from a post a couple of weeks ago, when I drew a load of ideas for boards to play Four Against Darkness with, I had a think and looked at some boards I already had and decided to do things differently.

All the boards here were made from a set of 3D boards I made a while back that proved to be too small to play a game on. I had mounted my miniatures on penny size bases and it took all the space up.

I had the idea of laying them alongside each other to make larger playing spaces and photocopying them on my home printer,

Then I laminated them and added the original doors.

The doors I had already made some while ago when I made the boards. Could do with some varnish sometime in the future.

The second half of the set all laid out.

So you could say all that drawing was a waste of time but I think it made me focus on solving the problem which I revisited again at home with more resources at hand. Least that's what I'm going to tell myself :-)

Will be using them to play on in Wales in the coming week, will try to take some pictures.

Four Against Darkness: Tile Designs

I am away on holiday in France at the moment and have brought 4 V darkness with me, as it's an excellent holiday game. Easy to pack and play, but loads of fun to play. Andrea Sfiligoi, really produced a smashing set of rules which I can't recommend enough.
Anyway I have long wanted to play it with a handful of 10mm miniatures and some home made tiles. Well here are my initial scribblings/ideas.
Some I won't be using but I think I know where to go from here.
The "preferred design" reference refers to the second page.

These are all pencil drawings so very faint, sorry. The basic dungeon tiles are going to be the first set I'll make, but I may have a go at some others in the future.

My first set of sketches.

Caverns and castles.

I have drawn some to play in a cityscape too, but they were so faint were impossible to see.
Next time I will have some inked versions hopefully.

4A Darkness: Character Miniatures

Wouldn't be right to play a roleplay game without some miniatures to use so I decided to use some 10mm Pendraken Barbarian and High Elf models with one GW Warmster dwarf thrown in.

I wonder if any of them will survive the first dungeon, looking forward to playing.

Chunt the Wizard,

Barcoon the Barbarian,

Abran the Cleric,

Drangus the Dwarf.

Found this extra model this morning, one I had made ages ago, so will take it along.

The whole party assembled for action.

Four Against Darkness

About a month ago I came across Four Against Darkness by Andrea Sfiligoi, who wrote Rogue Stars, a solitaire dungeon-delving pen and paper game. I thought it would make a great way to play a few fantasy games while away on holiday. Since Cumbria is beckoning to us, next week seemed to be the best time time to have a go at playing it.

So I have written up 4 characters and me and Mrs Daxio will be playing while away, will post a report of how it went. To be honest it has the feel of Warhammer Quest but with more options but fewer rules, so I am looking forward to giving it a go.

Abran the Cleric

Drangus the Dwarf

Chunt the Wizard

And finally Barcoon the Barbarian.
