This is the beginning of a building project that puts me right out of my comfort zone. Namely the construction of a modern building which needs to look modern or futuristic without being straight up Necromunda type terrain. Something that you might see in a city.
Obviously the other problem is the severe limitation of which materials I have available. So basically cat food boxes!
Also I wanted them so that they can be stacked to make tall skyscrapers or used singularly to make lower level buildings. Also I wanted them to have the possibility of interiors added sometime in the future.
This is the basic concept all separated. Creating the textures and painting is where it may well all fall apart. Only time will tell.
I had a look at some of my old Marvel comics to get ideas fro roof tops and they all seem to be littered with small sheds, water towers and boiler rooms, so the blocks I hoped would sort of represent those.
Have used cereal card, wooden blocks from Home bargains, coffee stirrers and PVAcrete.
I like the look and practicality of them but am not sure if I will be able to paint them well enough to look how I want them.
Soon as this one is painted I will post. Fingers crossed!
Looks promising!
ReplyDeleteThe painting is the part I'm not looking forward to, but we'll see :-)
DeleteMate you must have the best fed cats in the world!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha just a bloody lot of them, 5 at present :-)
DeleteLooking good so far. Does it matter if you make the buildings with the printed side in or out? E.g. is there a texture change, or is it different to paint?
ReplyDeleteNot really as I am painting them, but I tried to keep the box intact as possible, so I had to have the coloured side outside :-)
DeleteNice use of cat food boxes. Looking forward to see the building painted. Cheers, Karl
ReplyDeleteWell with 5 cats they have to be used, thanks Karl :-)
DeleteTerrific scratchbuilding, these look amazing. Looking forward to see them with some paint on.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wouter, will get to it soon :-)
