D&D: Rocky Terrain and Walkways

I have been playing about with terrain trying to come up with a good way of representing walkways on cliff passes. Most of the terrain I already had but needed to create some very basic blocks to give the impression of some sort of height.

So I got up in the loft and found a sheet of very basic polystyrene, which I cut into 5 basic shapes, the bottom one is from a thinner 2" sheet but I used it all the same.

I have a pyrograph, for burning into wood, but it can double up as a heat tool for poly. I created them very quickly as there was a chance the game was going to be only a week away. The blocks looked OK, not very realistic, but then I didn't want to spend day and days making them.

So this is going to be an entrance to a subterranean complex, the PCs will have to fight the guard at the top and half way along the walkways, which I'm hoping will be fun for us all.

Its been fun to put this together, was encouraged by watching Runehammer on You Tube, great fun to watch and with loads of great ideas too.

The walkways are held in place with coffee stirrers sandwiched between the poly blocks, seems to hold OK.

  2. Sweet! Looks like the Temple of Doom. :)

It would be neat to put some tunnel entrances into the walls as possible spawn points or shortcuts.

  3. That's a fabulous setup, the kind of things you sometimes see on conventions for demo skirmish games.
