NPC Flat Designs

This my set up for drawing my Flat miniatures, Its important, for me at least, that the board is at an angle so I don't get a stiff neck and then a headache.

Nothing fancy at all, a computer chair with a board propped up on it, but it works fine.
I sit on the edge of our sofa with an extra cushion.
Its riveting stuff ain't it this?

The flats are drawn both front and back photocopied and painted before they are put together.

Finally a quick note and a big thanks to my friend Wayne who bought me this rather nifty and very slim light box or light pad, I should say.

This is how the Light pad works, its brilliant. previously I had been holding stuff up against windows to see through them.

Cheers again Wayne, much appreciated.

D&D: Aramantia Utox: Lamia NPC

For the past year or so this NPC has been a thorn in the side of my players in our D&D campaign, to the point where some of them actively hate her and were happy when she died, the first time.

Obviously this is a converted model, the top half is an 80's dark elf from GW and the lion body is a nasty cheap model from a pound shop, which one I can't remember to be honest. If I find myself in one of the "pound" shops I always have a good look round for anything I think might come in useful in the future. There is nearly always something.

I  did a bit of GS work round the skirt/type mane and added some details from a high elf sprue, GW made again.

Here is the card I made for her, basic stats on the front.

On the reverse are the spells she can use and a few pencil notes about tactics.

I also copied the magic cards, from the set that I purchased a while back, I am a bit anal about cards, I rarely give my players the originals, I put paper copies in plastic shields and they have those. To be fair I use them that way too with any characters I play.

Forgot that I had probably added a bit too much GS to create Aramantia's bust, look like a couple of old bald headed gentlemen peeping out the top of her blouse, ah well.

Was fun to make and she has certainly been an interesting NPC to play.

The base is cat food box card with PVAcrete covering it and grass tufts from Luke's APS.

Kingdom RPG

Image result for kingdom rpg

I was listening to Matthew Colville on You Tube today talking about an RPG game called Kingdom, where the players create a Kingdom and its major characters, good or ill and decide upon its history, He was suggesting it was a good way of creating D&D Kingdoms and so I bought it, cost about £7.50 to download, click on the picture above.

Haven't had much of  chance to read any of it, been too busy, but sounds dead interesting and enables the players of a D&D campaign to design their adventure world along with their DM. So everyone is invested in the creation of the playing environment.

He also mentioned another game called Microscope, again can be found through link to Kingdom, not bought this one but is same price, so perhaps some time in the future.

I will be giving it a try.
Can't recommend Mr Colville enough for his insights on DM ing, if you're interested give him a listen, got me running a D&D campaign some 36 years after I did the last one :-)

Five Parsecs: Doctor Mollusc and the Fardle Fanatics

For some time now I have been thinking of getting back into playing Five Parsecs and last week I did just that.  In order to kick start my interest I have decided I need a big bold new Arch Enemy to give flavour to the games. Hence the leader of the Fanatical Fardle Fanatics, Doctor Neand Mollusc. A larger than life, and just about anyone else, character.

I have to admit that I cannot claim responsibility for the inception of Dr Mollusc, no, my son came up with the character some 16 years ago when he was a nipper. But the idea of the good Doctor has stayed with me for all that time. along with a few other characters which will be making an appearence in the future.

Thorgog B'Uttrit Daemon Prince

Here is my latest NPC which I think should fit in with Hasak, Gabrad and Painfury, although I can't see him appearing for a long time. The characters have no chance of beating him at the moment, he's far too tough.

So Thorgog is the power behind the 3 amigoes that caused Serefina and Crue all the trouble in their adventures.

I was really lucky in that I was given this model, in rather poor condition, for free. So I am really pleased how it turned out. Lots of green stuff added to keep it together.

The Jaccio City Guard

This is the City Guard of Jaccio and the Mayor of Jaccio.
His Divine Holiness: Lotoon Blossem. I will provide a full character sheet for Lotoon another post.

Lotoon with his Guard. In total he has about 50 Guards at his disposal and also a variety of specialist advisors and mercenaries.

Arch Enemies

These are my first attempt to create a set of Arch Enemies to give the player characters some problems.
So I gathered the models, from what I found lying in my bits box, painted them, created an NPC record sheet, as below, and made each an event card. They are based on three characters I found in an old White Dwarf from 93, an adventure called The Priests of Pleasure by Andy Warwick.
The three characters were described there but for Heroquest, so I had to jiggle their stats about for Quest.
Gabrad
Hasak
Painfury

These are the NPC sheets I use to help run adventures they appear in.

And the cards that I use to represent them if I want them to appear randomly.

I also use the Chaos magic deck with Hasak, so that I don't have to look up his spells all the time.
Obviously I'm not overly keen on these NPC's dying, so they often get away at the last minute. Although some or all of them will die at some point in the future to make way for more arch enemies. I also use a Serious Injuries table I found by Boyinleaves for characters, I've been using it to prolong the NPC life span. NPCs don't appear in every adventure, its good to drop them out for a few months till they're almost forgotten.

This is Boig Boitha
This is my second attempt at an arch enemy, these first few pics show how I converted her from various bits and a lot of green stuff, There is the arm and legs from a Quest minotaur, coupled with the body and face of an orc. Extra bits of armour added to bulk her out, then the bust and bottom in green stuff.

These are Boig's Boyz, built from old chaos warriors bodies and goblin heads, worked well I thought.

The group all painted up.

The NPC sheet, card for Boig and the cards for the Boyz/Guard.
