Projects: Physical and Notional

The way I work on projects is that I rarely have just one on the go at any moment. Here are the four I am presently working through.

Using Das mixed with PVA I am experimenting with sculpting a Hill Giant for D&D, the finer details I intend working in GS.

I do a bit each day then leave to dry.

Some details, buckles and straps will be in GS.

Not looking forward to doing the face!

Secondly I've been making a terrain piece for my son, he wanted an altar, but think I may have really created a temple, the altar will be made though.

I made this in parts so that he can organise it how he likes, I will be making at least 2 actual altars, for variety as well.

Its a bit rough and generic, which gives it multiple use but then not very characterful, so that's a problem I have yet to solve.

Perhaps there are some smaller sculpted pieces I can add to give more flavour.

Next, the large model buildings I started to make so I could play Golden Heroes or Walking Dead with, are close to just needing painting.

Notice the upper storey, the windows look more like shutters, thought I would the do the whole build like that till I had done a few...... oh no.

Two need masonry paint and one literally colouring.

Some extra roof pieces to allow me to creat lower buildings from the upper storeys.

Finally the Wizards, Alchemists, Sorcerers Tome that I started some while back has been given a treatment of PVAcrete to fill its edges and a first hint of paint.

This was an experiment to see how badly the cheap folder might warp and it seems to be OK.

So I will be finishing this off as soon as I can, will be putting maps and "World" materials in it.

That's all the projects on the go at the moment, although I do have a notion to make a 12" box to put Tom's altar in, which will can be used as part of the model as well. So never really finished eh?

Terrain: Modern Buildings

Finally got round to creating the basic forms for the rest of the buildings I am going to be making based on the original here pictured at the front.

They are all made from the same cat food card boxes I used for the first, along with more basic bricks from the wooden kiddies set I bought ages ago.

When complete I will have 4 buildings that I can set to various heights so that all the bases are covered, so to speak.

These all come to pieces and when I have a few more roof top sections I will be able to have perhaps 6 buildings in total from what I have made here.

Next I have to cut all the parts to create the details and then glue them in place. But since I know what I am doing should not take too long.

Finally will come the painting.

Must apologise for not being very active recently but have had a case of sinusitis for last two weeks and really haven't felt much like doing any modeling at all.
Noses eh?

Terrain: Modern building first finished.... I think

This is the first of the more modern buildings I have been working on and the part of the process I was looking forward least to doing; the painting.

I kept it simple for the moment although I might return to it later and add some further details.

I gave everything but the windows and frames a coat of sandy masonry paint to begin with in an attempt to create a concrete type effect.

Then painted greys of various hues until I finished with white.

Looking at the image below I realise that the join in the cat food box is clearly visible despite being filled with card. The next one will have to have something else done to it as I don't like that, perhaps a piece of card inserted into the window, the same size.

The windows were just blue then washed over with a black, very watered down.

Still not sure what to do with the inside quite yet, at the least I should give it some colour. The roof also comes off, so there will be that one to think about as well.

I have already built a load more carcasses and need to add the details next, will post again on this topic when all the construction is complete.

Overall I like them, but do worry that they may not get used that often and are very much dedicated to only one scale, 30mm ish. Only time will tell I suppose.
