Dungeon Crawl Tiles in 15mm

Initially this  project was to create a set of playable, Zombicide type tiles for a D&D based simple crawl.

As an experiment I drew and painted about 12 cards to see how they would work. I had made preliminary sketches in rough and referred to my copy of Zombicide, just incase you are worried, I never launch any big project without a long time thinking stuff through, (am old after all.)

So the idea was the cards could be used in two ways, either as seen here a blind deck, cards laid down when drawn so they make some sense i.e. the corridors match up.

Below is a completed dungeon.

They are quite flexible, as seen in next picture, so can be used offset. About this time I realised doors were going to be a thing.

There are lots of rooms, but wasn't entirely sure if they were big enough for play.

Anyway, full of confidence, and beans, I begun creating a couple of characters to play in the crawl. Mrs Daxio and myself had two PCs were hadn't played in a while so it seemed appropriate to use hem, Zaphira the Dragonborn barbarian and Ovi the Dwarf cleric.

Set up for a more Zombicide style of play with the board in full view and objectives specific, using all the rooms.

You can see where all the Undead flats were going to rise from.

You may have noticed that the doors have slight design differences, that's because in my haste I folded the designs I had drawn rather than cut them separately. I much prefer the nice thick dark edge of the cut doors and so am currently altering all the folded versions. Was tempted to chuck them but I really don't like wasting even small amounts of paper.

So about two months ago when I started this idea, I was all up for a dungeon crawl but using D&D monsters and PCs. I quickly realised this would be Warhammer Quest by another name and I don't want to play that any more.
Then I discovered Ironsworn RPG and everything changed...

D&D: Developing Specific Locations

With a load of D&D games coming up in next few months I have been trying to see how I can combine my playing board, the wall sections I made and the boards I made years ago for Warhammer Quest to create special locations for encounters.

The intention is to have a picture of those specific encounter terrain set ups so I can reproduce them quickly during a game. Nothing worse than trying to work what I might need, spoils the flow of the game.

Little bit of a niggle is that the original tiles are not 1" squares unfortunately, I'm gonna play on them and see if anyone mentions it :-)

Slight variation, no Quest board.

I have some one foot square boards that I may use to create the scene on and just have to hand, perhaps some Blu Tac to hold in place the smaller pieces. I won't be using more than a couple of specific locations in an evenings play. Others I can improvise easily enough from the box of bits I have.

D&D 5e: 2D Cottage Designs

I have included some of the notes and drawings I have made related to the initial ideas for the cottage floorplans and some of the final designs in black and white.

Some notes and even a colour test as I used crap emulsion match pots for the most part watered down to give a watercolour effect.

Drawings with rendering.

I had fun adding some interesting details.

A pre rendered shot, no hatching at all.

Some prepainted rooms, ready to be scanned and then printed and finally painted.

All the templates I used to make sure all the separate elements were same scale.

Final pieces coloured and laminated for use.

These might work for Zombicide too.

D&D 5e: Cottage Floor plans

Generally I like to make my terrain and buildings as 3D as it's possible to get most of the time, however I have a situation where that mindset is really not going to help me.

In my current D&D campaign that I am DM ing the group are about to start adventuring in a large town for the first time. While I have plans and maps of the town itself, I wanted the PCs to be able to negotiate at least an estate of the town at a time on the play area. They like using models and so do I.
So I came up with what I hope will be a quick solution that I can use time and time again.

This is the first of many different houses that I will be able to lay out and expect the PCs to never enter most of the time. I have designed 5 different types of cottage and a few other buildings like tenements and larger more well to do homes.

When they are inked and painted I will scan them so I can produce them when ever I need them. Finally I'll laminate them to keep them tidy.

With some models to give a sense of scale.

Before I get people telling me the stairs don't work, I know its a graphic solution to a fiddly problem that keeps it simple and hopefully continues to fool my artistic eye for the foreseeable future.
