Terrain: Wagon Train

Finished the second two wagons to complete this set. My first attempts at open wagons, apart from the odd chariot for my orc and goblin armies.

I have three rather nice cows! that will be pulling them, still need some paint however and perhaps some bases, not decided on that.

The wheels were always going to be the most fiddly part of this build, and they were.

I can see these being used in a huge variety of games and am a little surprised I'd never made any previously :-)

All in all these will get plenty of use, which is important and they will inform my next "wagon" type build which will be a covered Gypsy type affair.

Wagon Train, the start of.

I seem to have had a whole series of games where wagons were crucial to the plot and first I could not find my original model, made quite a while back now, and then I realised one was not enough.

So last week I set about creating another 2 to complete the set. I think the pictures pretty much say it all, the wheels are always the part that take the longest and are the least fun, so I got them done early on.

The actual wagons were based on the one I made earlier, it seemed to work OK, so why change it.

I have some toy cows to use as pack animals. probably a bit large but close enough and very cheap.

I have some GS work to do to strengthen joins, especially the wheels, but then its just painting, which is simple enough.

I used wood glue for some parts, superglue for others when I needed something glued immediately and when I put the wheels on the cart, not done yet, I will sprinkle Bi-carb over the superglue join to strengthen it. If you're not aware it creates and chemical change in the glue which sets hard immediately, the Bi-carb forming a solid with the superglue. Pictures when I post about this next.

Ghost Archipelago: Pirate Ships Part 2, Me Hearties

Some shots of the 2 pirate ships I have been constructing for Ghost Archipelago when it comes out later in the year.

Been adding loads of details and trying to make both the vessels look different from each other.

The details were added, as you can probably see, using matchsticks, coffee stirers and cocktail sticks.
There are also quite a few lolly sticks in there too

Light fitment for stern of ship.

Shots of both the vessels together.

So what do you do about the unsightly corrugated bits of card showing? Use PVAcrete of course, a bit thinner than usual so it works into the gaps,

Looks much better than the other above.

This is where I am with both of them now, still a load of details to add to the prow of each model and more details on the right hand model in general.

Finally it will be the masts that need adding, thought I was going to use old pencils but turns out I don't have any. So had to go and buy some dowel, cost me £2.25 from Wickes, it is the only thing I have had to purchase for this build, so still quite happy.

Warpath: Spectra Escort Gunship

Since last week when I knew that I would be playing Warpath I have been working on converting the Eldar Grav tank I built for myself about 15 years ago. Its made from 6 mm MDF, card, sprue and some polyfilla to get the curves.

Hopefully when it is finished construction it will look quite differently from the original, but will have to see. May spend all this time only to look at it and say, "Oh its an old Falcon isn't it." But there you go.

I also think that I will be trying to use it in other games like 5 Parsecs, so may be getting some use there as well.

The way I approached building this craft is that the more detail I can add to the structure the more interesting it will look and the easier it will be to paint.

Details built up with: cocktail sticks, matchsticks, skewers, lolly sticks.

You may notice that there are some small picecs of painted lolly stick to the left of the Escort Gunship, these are play pieces I'm making. The blue are shield markers and the red Tag markers.

KOW: Goblin War Trombone

Constructed this War Trombone for my Goblin army out of found bits from my bits box. Its a conglomeration of parts from snotlings, goblins and dwarven hornblower parts to create the Trombone.

I added some GS to get rid of some of the more Dwarf runey bits and mounted it on a 50 mm hardboard base.

I built it for the Beers of War tournament last week but it will see another outing tonight at the Wakefield Warriors Games club.
