Rogue Trooper Catachan

Looking in my loft space the other day I came across a plastic box of Catachans and thought, "I must do something with these some day."

Then I went to the WWarriors Club on Monday to play KOW with Steve and a lot of the fellas there were playing 40K and we started chatting, that started me thinking.

When I got home I went and rescued this sergeant miniature and decided to paint it, then I remembered one of my favourite characters from 2000AD, namely, Rogue Trooper.

The genetic warrior fighting a one man war as his platoon and friends had all been slaughtered. It gave me the impetus to start painting.

I plan to have a whole army of blue genetic warriors and I have plenty to go at, the box is over flowing.

First target is to get a 10 man squad painted. Will post when the first 5 are complete :-)

Impassable Terrain or Small Plateaux

This is a piece of  impassible terrain which I have made for several game systems, I see it being used in Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago as well as Kings of war and in some circumstances Warpath and Pulp Alley.

Based on a card core with PVAcrete over the top then painted. This stack is a bit different as it has a hole through the middle, was looking for a alternative look.

Now with a few miniatures and other terrain added to give a sense of scale.

I threw the skeletons on because they were out from a game of Frostgrave Monday night.

Five Parsecs: Small Towers

Got completely sidetracked by the idea of creating some small towers for my games of Five Parsecs from Home. Mainly using the huge amount of card I get to recycle every week from cat food bought for 5 cats!

Used some coffee stirers to give strength and create detail.

I also used cereal packet card as well for the the more shallow areas and details.

These are very similar to the larger builds I made for the WWarriors GC a few months ago except they are about half the size, perhaps a little less. Useful to me because they are easier to store.

Included some pictures of the models unpainted at end of post to give some idea of how I made them.

Warpath: Markers/Tokens

Have been working in dribs and drabs on some markers to help me play Mantic's Warpath Firefight, which I have played 5 times so far and enjoyed immensely. I prefer to make my own rather than buy those available, partly because I'm not keen on the plastic versions, but also because I like "Home Made".

All the markers so far, still some painting to do but generally constructed. They have been made from lollypop sticks as a base, with cocktail sticks and coffee stirers as details.

The blue markers are to represent Shields, the Asterians have shields 3 and 2, so that is all I have made.

The red markers are Tag markers, certain weapons leave a trace that other weapons can use to target the enemy.

Lastly, these will be Suppression tokens, so I have made 20 of these. Not sure about them to be honest, which colour should I paint them? Red is obvious choice and do I made some worth more than one to try to cut down on the number of markers you need. All to be decided, but next time I play I should have markers galore :-)

Warpath: Spectra Escort Gunship

Since last week when I knew that I would be playing Warpath I have been working on converting the Eldar Grav tank I built for myself about 15 years ago. Its made from 6 mm MDF, card, sprue and some polyfilla to get the curves.

Hopefully when it is finished construction it will look quite differently from the original, but will have to see. May spend all this time only to look at it and say, "Oh its an old Falcon isn't it." But there you go.

I also think that I will be trying to use it in other games like 5 Parsecs, so may be getting some use there as well.

The way I approached building this craft is that the more detail I can add to the structure the more interesting it will look and the easier it will be to paint.

Details built up with: cocktail sticks, matchsticks, skewers, lolly sticks.

You may notice that there are some small picecs of painted lolly stick to the left of the Escort Gunship, these are play pieces I'm making. The blue are shield markers and the red Tag markers.

Warpath: First Game

Played my first full game of Warpath Firefight down at WWarriors GC and very much enjoyed it.

Lee played GPCS
Luke played Marauders.
Steve played Forge Fathers.
I played Asterians.

Four of us played with 1250 pts each just to see how the game felt.

Close up of my half complete Spectra Escort Gunship.

Lee's GPCS Tanks and transport vehicles.

Steve's Forge Fathers.

Luke's Marauders closing in on Steve's Forge Fathers.

I lost all three of these units in end.

Overview of battlefield.

Felt like I had some idea of what was going on but have loads to learn yet. I enjoyed the game and so did everyone else.
So a good start :-)
