Dead Trees for 10 mm Play

It recently occurred to me that some dead looking trees would go very nicely with all the ruins I had built. Since I had none I set about rectifying the situation.

My first attempts made form a basic card shape and smothered in PVAcrete looked absolutely awful and even after several tries at saving them I could see no future for them other than the bin, which is where they ended their days.

I had seen a couple of You Tube videos using gardening string to create bushes so decided to give it a try. Luckily Mrs Daxio has plenty of course string just right for the purpose, so I set too.

I immediately preferred where these skinny, gaunt trees were taking me and so persisted.

They look suitably cobwebby and the original colour of the string meant I had little painting to do to get them to a playable state.

Disaster had been avoided and there would be dead trees in the city tonight....I was happy.

Buildings in 10 mm: Frostgrave and Warmaster

This is another small set of buildings I intend using in my 10 mm version of Frostgrave. These are different from the first set in that they are more obviously medieval and featuring lots of timber work made from matchsticks.

I  intend mixing these in with the other models, they give me the opportunity to create sets or groups of terrain that expand variety and keep games from looking too repetitive and boring.

A few close ups to give a little more incite into how they were made and painted. The only materials I used here that are different from before are the tapers for floorboards and matchsticks for timber sections.

I think these will work well for both Frostgrave and Warmaster, either fantasy or historical.
I am currently working on some rocky outcrops and an Orc or Viking village.
Future projects will include some complete buildings which I think will come in handy for D&D city encounters.

Roman Miniatures: 30 mm and 10 mm

These are the hand drawn miniatures I showed last post, now completed and initially in 30 mm.

Both backs and fronts and each miniature is slightly bent to enable affixing to the base and to suggest a little more of a 3D feel.

I'll use these in my D&D games.

However these can be used in another scale, here they are copied to 10 mm and based on 20 by 40 mm bases.

These represent twice as many miniatures as the 30 mm copies, but its these I really drew the figures for. It makes them far more detailed than I could ever have made them draw straight in 10 mm.

I did once draw some in 15mm, but even then the details got lost, so I reverted to 30 mm. Also it allowed me  to create D&D miniatures at the same time.

Here you can see the comparison between the two.

Presently I have a sheet of LOTR style Orcs and goblins on the go, just need cutting and gluing.

Long time no blog: 10 mm terrain

This is the first time I have posted in quite some time, not because I have not been making stuff that was relevant but because the whole blogging thing had left me cold.
However I recently felt it was time I recorded the things I have been up to.

I will be mainly posting in three core area; Warmaster miniatures, Roleplaying miniatures and 3mm miniatures.

This is the first in a series of posts about handcrafted 10 mm buildings for use in Warmaster and also for a 10mm Frostgrave project I have embarked upon.
These buildings have been constructed from tapers, PVAcrete and card of different thicknesses as well as Geek Gaming's excellent Base Ready range, sieved to help with the scale.
The model is on a 50 mm by 60 mm base and is 70 mm to highest point.

KOW 10mm Orcs

These models in 10 mm are obviously meant to be used to play Warmaster, by GW. However recently I've played KOW solo with Warmaster models, mostly Romans and Celts.

However on those occasions I was playing alone and didn't worry about base sizes. Recently Luke and Lee at Geek Gaming have been talking about playing KOW in 10 mm and then Luke made this video about just that, having printed off several 10 mm armies.

As a result I decided to semi convert my Orcs to be on the correct base size and this is what I made.

Some of the individual models I made from Pendraken models, the majority were GW.

"I told ya not to look at me...."

Miniatures free of the base I made.
The giant and the Slasher had to have a small bit of Blu Tac added to the base to keep it in place.

The complete 2150 point army.

The slashers base was a bit hit and miss, but will do.

If  you feel like you may have seen these before at least a month ago on this Blog you would be correct. Google decided that the post had transgressed their standards and removed it, Obviously that decision was reversed and so I have reposted it,
All's well that ends well :-)
