Feywild Village/Town Designer Hexagons

These are a set of Hex tiles I designed to help me plan and create places in the Feywild. Map making only gets my pulse racing for the first couple and then it becomes a chore. With these I can make any number of towns, villages or even cities if I need them.

I drew out the originals and coloured them with pencils, then I photocopied them with my printer and cut a set out.

Those were then laminated and ready to use.

To create a place I blu tac them to a sheet of A4 hex paper, when I'm happy I photocopy them again and keep the copy.

Examples of the "tree" house set of tiles.

Below laid out to create a multilayered town up in the trees.

A mixture of the ground and tree hex's.

Three locations I have used in our games of D&D.
The Town of Adressin. I add notes to the map of prominent places and NPC homes/shops etc.

The Village of Aio.

The Village of Acron.

The Village of Rosasea, to which I added a little detail in the centre of the village for role play purposes.

The first colour rendition of the tiles.

Finally the original hand drawn tiles before colour was added. I always colour a copy, not the original just in case I screw it up.

D&D: Mapping Tiles: Examples

Here are some examples of the maps I have created so far with the Tile sets I made for myself last week. They seem to work fairly well, not sure if they will become too formulaic and boring, only time will tell.

This is my version of Bryn Shander in Icewind Dale, a medium sized, walled city.

I can imagine that really large cities could be constructed over 4 A4 sheets, could be interesting.

After I had laid out the tiles on two separate pieces of A4 paper I cut down the centre of the right hand bit so the two could overlap. When I use them they will be held in plastic wallets so they lay flatter. For the photos I had to remove the wallets, due to reflections.

I had to also draw extra bits in, like the city walls and some of the extra buildings so the map made sense, but it did not take long. The only bit that caused me a problem was that I had a lovely picture in front of me by Mike Schley and I felt bound by some reason, to make mine as similar as possible. Heavens knows why. But I didn't let that constrict me on any of the others.

Next I used the more wintery tiles to create the Town of Huddlestone on the borders of Icewind.

Created on one A4 page and still needing details adding.

Finally Bremen a small village on the edge of a lake a little way from Cairn Kelvin.

Added extra bits to this like the lakeside and the piers. I am in the middle of drawing more hexs with coastal features, will post them when they are complete.

My initial thoughts on these is that with them I can bring together a usable map quickly which looks OK, so at present they're doing what I wanted.

Will be writing in where taverns and important buildings occur soon.

Travelling: Nevom's Tower to Jaccio

Faroth safely stowed away the casket they had carried so carefully through out the journey and with his companions made their way to the rear exit of Nevom's Tower. The Mage having not made an appearance.

Off set the adventurers for Jaccio in the west.

The first weeks travel culminated in an avalanche of rock, which blocked the path and had to be cleared with locals help at the cost of 220 G for the whole group.

The next seven days past very quietly indeed.

Then half way through the second week they came across a Dwarf Pedlar and his Halfling assistant.

They had many interesting things to buy and since the adventurers were bored they decided to buy a few items.

Bill bought a Lucky charm for 50G, Faroth splashed out on two Healing potions and Gwengoth and Azzraela both bought Bronze Wrist bands at 30G each
Very pleased with their wise purchases, which were well made articles, the adventures moved off.

Precious little happened the following week...

Or the next, even though Azzraela kept an eye out for trouble ahead.

Or perhaps is was just to get away from a grumpy Blackhead Bill who was moaning all the time.

After which there were hard words exchanged and Bill walked off alone.

Grumble, grumble, grumble...

Which went on until the final week.

Finally they had reached the outskirts of Jaccio City and the Wharf beckoned to them. Bill happy once more at the thought of ale.
