Flats: NPC Designs

While I was away in Wales had a few rainy days where I had time to make a load of drawings of possible NPC for D&D or Rangers of shadow deep or anything really.

Have only done the front so far as had nothing glass to lean on, I use a window at home and some Blu Tac, but the fiddly bit of deciding what they would look like is all done.

Some close ups, note that they haven't been cleaned up yet so still have loads of pencil marks on them.

They vary, some I am happier with than others and it also occurs to me that all these are either human or at a push elf, although with a bit of clever photocopying I might use some as dwarves and halfings or even as goliaths, will have to see how they look when they are miniaturised or blown up a bit.

D&D 5e: Medieval Citizen Miniatures - Foundry

Some time ago I ordered these towns folk from Foundry miniatures to use in my games of D&D mainly for market scenes etc, however they seem to have crept into taverns and even dungeons as well.

I like them very much and may well see if I can get another set to give me even more variety.

I realised I hadn't posted any actual pictures of them other than a few during game play, so here they are.

Five Parsecs: Doctor Mollusc and the Fardle Fanatics

For some time now I have been thinking of getting back into playing Five Parsecs and last week I did just that.  In order to kick start my interest I have decided I need a big bold new Arch Enemy to give flavour to the games. Hence the leader of the Fanatical Fardle Fanatics, Doctor Neand Mollusc. A larger than life, and just about anyone else, character.

I have to admit that I cannot claim responsibility for the inception of Dr Mollusc, no, my son came up with the character some 16 years ago when he was a nipper. But the idea of the good Doctor has stayed with me for all that time. along with a few other characters which will be making an appearence in the future.

The Black Hat Emporium: The Dours

The Black Hat Emporium is run by the Dour family, with Malo being in overall charge of the day to day running of the business. Any big decisions are generally made by him. However Bak often has some say as to what should and should not be bought and for how much. Oa, being the youngest, is the muscle in the shop if anything goes wrong, although to be honest, not much does these days.

Malo Dour is a rather strange character with a height complex, he's spent too much time in the company of Dark Elves, so wears a set of stilts to give him that bit of extra umph. Bak Dour, on the right, and Oa Dour, on the left are his two sons, Bak being just a few years older.

Their mother, Frigg Dour, died quite some time ago under mysterious circumstances, while in custody with the Jaccio Guard. Malo has never forgotten or forgiven Agapanthus Lortia for his part in her death.

The Black Hat is ostensibly seen as a legal purveyor of goods, but everyone in Jaccio and beyond has heard the odd tale of illegal goings on, dodgy dealings or magical items fenced for specific buyers. The Dours have an uneasy truce with the Jaccio guard, which is presently working in their favour, but dwarfs, chaotic or otherwise, do not forget easily and the death of their mother means that they are always looking for a way to pay Agapanthus back.

Oa still has to find his true place in the business, or whether his place is in the business at all. He often accompanies goods being delivered to other towns and cities, enjoying the freedom of life outside the shop.

Bak has spent many years studying magical items and can identify most objects which come into the Emporium. He has also become quite adept at casting the odd spell himself.

The three sheets I use to help play the NPC's I have in games. I also produce cards for the event deck, but these are not made yet. Will post later (not today.)

The models themselves are based on casts of old plastic Chaos Dwarf figures I made myself, they were not good casts (I do not possess the skills really) missing feet and hands and tops of heads. These bits I rebuilt from green stuff and used bits from my Dwarf bits box to supply; guns, books and the hand axe. Malo has a pencil for his hat with card added to the top and the stilts are made from matchsticks and GS.

The Dours will have small part to play in our next adventure, and I hope the Black Hat will become a place they may visit often to sell items they might have gathered on their adventures.

The Black Hat Emporium: Plans

In our next game of Quest, about to be played any day now, the adventurers have to break into the Black Hat Emporium in an attempt to retrieve the Casket that they had stolen during their bit of fun in the Windy Wharf Inn.

The owners of the Black Hat are a tight knit family, the Dours.
Malo Dour a well known Chaos Dwarf in Jaccio City and his two sons, Bak and Oa, have long bought and sold goods and items both legally and a little less so.

I've realised recently that it would be a lot easier to keep control of my special locations if I made drawings of them so that I can reproduce the models and how they should be set up. Here's a quick drawing from one of my sketch books.

I may also have to map the tunnels that exist beneath the shop, since they may well feature in further games. Luckily I will photograph these tunnels so that I have a record of what they look like.

The Black Hat: Quest location

In our next game of Warhammer Quest we will be investigating a local shop in the City of Jaccio, with a mysterious and dangerous reputation, as a purveyor of magical items not always got by strictly legal means. I won't say too much as it will spoil the story line, but here is the shop.

The Black Hat shop was made from a basic cottage model I made about a year ago, documented here, with some extra wall sections and a smaller outbuilding to give it character. Finally I made a couple of signs that can hang outside to show clearly what the place is.

The shop is run by Malo Dour a Chaos Dwarf and his two sons, who seem to run a legitimate business although local gossip has it that Dour has links with all sorts of strange occurances. Indeed it is rumoured that Dour has a whole complex of tunnels hidden deep below the Black Hat....
We will see.

Agapanthus Lortia: Commander of the Jaccio Guard

Commander Agapanthus
This is the commander of the Jaccio Guard.
Agapanthus is a hardened warrior, a retired adventurer who was hired by Lotoon the mayor, some 5 years ago. Agapanthus spends much of his time at the side of Lotoon as his bodyguard. However when the city is under threat or there are some particularly dangerous characters in town then Lotoon sends Agapanthus to sort it out.
Agapanthus has 5 captains who answer directly to him (they maybe detailed later).
