Dungeons and Dragons Flats

These are a selection of miniatures I've created for my players I've used in games this last year and a half. There are two separate groups of characters all playing in my city games set in Ghastminster, my homebrew setting.

These are all drawn by me and then coloured, copied, printed and cut, glued and based.

I got my players to create their PCs on Heroforge or sketch them, then they sent me the image and I created the drawing.

I also draw out the backs using the same method, my players liked how personal it was to have a one off drawing made.

I always mount the design on black card and ink round the edges to get rid of any white paper I may have missed when cutting. However with lights used to illuminate the miniatures the varnish picks up the light and gives a sheen here... what  can you do?

I try to separate as many parts of the miniature out so that they look a bit more 3D and bend the whole mini when I glue it to the base, partly for stability and partly for the 3D aspect mentioned earlier.

They are all drawn out as 30 mm miniatures with variances for species and this is how I make my 10 mm miniatures as well, will discuss this more in another post.

NPC Flat Designs

This my set up for drawing my Flat miniatures, Its important, for me at least, that the board is at an angle so I don't get a stiff neck and then a headache.

Nothing fancy at all, a computer chair with a board propped up on it, but it works fine.
I sit on the edge of our sofa with an extra cushion.
Its riveting stuff ain't it this?

The flats are drawn both front and back photocopied and painted before they are put together.

Finally a quick note and a big thanks to my friend Wayne who bought me this rather nifty and very slim light box or light pad, I should say.

This is how the Light pad works, its brilliant. previously I had been holding stuff up against windows to see through them.

Cheers again Wayne, much appreciated.

Flats: NPC Designs

While I was away in Wales had a few rainy days where I had time to make a load of drawings of possible NPC for D&D or Rangers of shadow deep or anything really.

Have only done the front so far as had nothing glass to lean on, I use a window at home and some Blu Tac, but the fiddly bit of deciding what they would look like is all done.

Some close ups, note that they haven't been cleaned up yet so still have loads of pencil marks on them.

They vary, some I am happier with than others and it also occurs to me that all these are either human or at a push elf, although with a bit of clever photocopying I might use some as dwarves and halfings or even as goliaths, will have to see how they look when they are miniaturised or blown up a bit.

D&D: Aramantia Utox: Lamia NPC

For the past year or so this NPC has been a thorn in the side of my players in our D&D campaign, to the point where some of them actively hate her and were happy when she died, the first time.

Obviously this is a converted model, the top half is an 80's dark elf from GW and the lion body is a nasty cheap model from a pound shop, which one I can't remember to be honest. If I find myself in one of the "pound" shops I always have a good look round for anything I think might come in useful in the future. There is nearly always something.

I  did a bit of GS work round the skirt/type mane and added some details from a high elf sprue, GW made again.

Here is the card I made for her, basic stats on the front.

On the reverse are the spells she can use and a few pencil notes about tactics.

I also copied the magic cards, from the set that I purchased a while back, I am a bit anal about cards, I rarely give my players the originals, I put paper copies in plastic shields and they have those. To be fair I use them that way too with any characters I play.

Forgot that I had probably added a bit too much GS to create Aramantia's bust, look like a couple of old bald headed gentlemen peeping out the top of her blouse, ah well.

Was fun to make and she has certainly been an interesting NPC to play.

The base is cat food box card with PVAcrete covering it and grass tufts from Luke's APS.
