Event: Fiasco 2017

A few shots of the Fiasco Wargame Event at the Leeds Armoury on Sunday. Had a lot of fun and could have spend a fortune.

I walked away from Ainsty Casting with a row boat, a Heritor and Vine Warden for Ghost Archipelago all for Mrs Daxio. When painted I will post.

Some excellent deals. Very tempted.

Lots of demo games.

Very well attended.

I had a thoroughly interesting 3 hours, look forward to next one.

Frostgrave: Wall Spell ......wall

Presently in Frostgrave I am running an Elementalist warband that I rolled randomly, not a very clever idea i'll grant you, one of the spells I got was Wall.

So I decided that I should create 3 walls for use in game. They are made from packing box card and covered in sand and with the marks created using PVAcrete, so unless sat on by a troll should be quite hard wearing.

Each one is 6" by 3" as described in the rule book, but I tried to add a little something to make them stand out.

See if you can guess which is my least favourite.

Terrain: "Real" Stone Walls

Recently I have been having a go at forming real stone into stone walls to play with so I thought I would show you where I am presently.

These stones are from a small container of stones I had from the Range, but when they are all gone I will be going to a garden centre and buying it in bulk.

This is how I made them.

Got some Lego off Ebay and created the wall molds.

Then I filled one mold with stones to see how many I would need to make the wall. Tipped them out into a container and added a very small amount of PVA and mixed them up. You want to have the stones all coated but not dripping, or they will take a week to set.

I had mine sat on a plastic cutting mat Mrs Daxio didn't want, plastic will allow the glue to be separated easily - so important.

Then add to mold press down with an implement then leave to set for as long as you can, at least a day possibly 2 to be sure. Be patient, on all 3 I have made so far I started fiddling too soon and had to do remedial work, take my advice leave well alone.

Then remove the Lego slowly and carefully

And you get a wall.

I then mounted mine on hardboard and used PVAcrete around the base for added strength. See the first few pictures.

I will be adding small stones/rubble to the base in future but I am going to try not to paint it at all: will see how that goes.

Saga: Fatigue Tokens

With Mick coming over to play last week I wanted to have some interesting scenery, of which I have enough although a comment about that later, and I needed some items to make the game a bit easier to play.

So here are my home made fatigue tokens.

The Fatigue tokens are made from cat food box card, cereal card and sand and glue (PVA), then painted.

To give an idea of size here are the Viking tokens next to my Warlord.

Again here is my Greek Warlord and a few tokens.

Wanted these tokens to be strong, so they are covered in sand on the edges and back as well as the front. I then painted and stained them, finally giving them a coating of thick PVA which really toughened them up. If you tap them they sound like stone.

Finally I had a minor epiphany as I was putting away the fantasy cottage I had used in the game, namely that if I changed the roof to a thatched version it would possibly pass as a Viking type dark ages build! So that's what I intend  doing in the next week or two. Will post when done.

Ghost Archipelago: Booty ahoy Cap'n

Really pleased to have received my Ghost Archipelago Nickstarter order from North Star Military Figures, cheers. Looking forward to having a good read of the rules in the next couple of days.

Always love cards, look forward to playing with these.

Interesting bit of literature to read, always good for creating feel and background.

This time I decided to go for the Crewmen box of figures to give my crew a proper "sailor" type feel and in order to support North Star and Osprey. When Frostgrave came out I used models I already had really.

Always fun to do Nickstarters as they often get you little extra bits to make the game that bit more fun.

So I will be reading the rules and then hopefully getting a game in as soon as I can create a crew and locate an opponent.

Frostgrave: Terrain on an Industrial Scale pt 4

Realised that I had not posted the completed terrain pieces I made for the Beers of War Tournament the other week.

So here they are, put together to create a scene of sorts on a 3' by 4' board.

There are five tables worth of terrain here although there was a lot more on the tables as you may have seen in a few posts ago, as I had added a lot of my personal terrain and centre pieces to give each table character.

I got a bit carried away with the pictures so there's plenty to look at :-)

On the table the only things I didn't make for the event were the mausoleum piece and the raised cobbled area.

There are still a few bits to finish off as I never got the chance to stain and seal them all.
