High Elves V Skaven Report; 2000 points

Deployment

This is going to be a very basic report, the most important thing to comment on is the fact that we had a good laugh and enjoyed the game thoroughly. We didn't use any of the special rules for terrain, it just adds to many variables to the game, so we left them out.

The Skaven army were arranged as seen here: 2 units of Slaves at the fore, with 2 units of Clanrats to the rear, Plague Monks with a Plague Furnace swinging away, Globadiers behind the cottage and a Hell Pit Abomination, on the other side there is a Warp Lightning Cannon.

Turn One
I moved the Eagle up in front of the 2 Slave units with the idea of drawing them into charge and then fleeing, to create a gap between them and the Clanrats behind.

The Lion Chariot took to the flank, while the Phoenix Guard moved into the trees. The loremaster cast fireball on the Slaves and killed a few. Seaguard and repeaters killed a few more Slaves and a few Plague Monks.
The Slaves charged the eagle and it fled, they moved a short way forward. The Plague Monks moved forward towards the Phoenix Guard.

Turn Two

Seeing an opportunity to get into combat quickly the Phoenix Guard and the Silver Helms decided to take a risk and charge the Plague Furnace unit. They won the first round off combat, but the monks don't give a fig.

The Skaven lines move forward.

The warp lightning cannon hits the Seaguard and coupled with a miscast kill around half the unit. The archmage also takes a wound.

The Hell Pit Abomination has moved away from the central combat, for the time.

Turn Three

Still stuck in combat with the Plague Furnace, the monks fair better this turn and win, just as the HPA hoves into view, just 1 inch short of the charge.

The Clanrats also get in on the act and charge the corner of the Phoenix Guard.

The Eagle flees again right through the Seaguard.

The Seaguard narrowly miss being turned into a unit of rats.

The Phoenix Guard and the Silver Helms leave the fight as quickly as possible.

Although defeated they have despatched quite a few Plague Monks, just not enough!

At this point with the Silver Helms and Phoenix Guard about to be caught and the Seaguard reduced to about 10 models the game was called.

Shame for the High Elves and Victory chitters for the Skaven.

Fantastically painted HPA looking very much every inch evil and foetid.

Evaluation
First and foremost we had a good laugh playing this game, although it did throw up some points for me.
I really must learn the lesson that the Monks and their bell or Furnace need to be avoided at all costs till later in the game. Really I had a great opportunity to avoid the HPA and the Monks, they were all over one side of the board. Perhaps if I had concentrated on the Clanrats etc I would have had more luck with them in combat, while I shot and magiced the Monks to a more manageable size unit.
But never mind, perhaps I will remember this idea next time I play Skaven... although I doubt it!
For me the only time I don't enjoy a game is when I feel that I didn't participate in it; well that is certainly not the case in this game.

Jabberslythe

This is my Jabberslythe model. Its based on an old child's giraffe model, cut up and repositioned. Then came the job of making the wings, from card and covered in glue from a glue gun. Then a lot of spikes made from greenstuff and miliput.

Took a long time to make and has to be said sat on my shelf unpainted for quite a while. Mainly because I couldn't ever see me using it in a game, but also because every time I looked at its face all I could see Puff the magic dragon, not really dangerous or insanity inducing.

So I have only ever used this model in one game, an 8000 point game some time ago, in which the Beastmen came to a rather sticky end. Says it all really.

Puff the Magic Dragon goes to war...

Spikes, spikes, spikes....

Clear evidence of  its giraffeness.

Daemonettes and Werewolves and Wraiths, oh my!

Here is an update on how I am getting on with my new monster list. I'm trying to mop the easy ones first to be honest, some of the more complicated, larger, models are putting me off. I'll get to them in the end.

These are my take on Daemonettes, obviously, I had a few old beastmen figures and thought I would whip off their heads, add wood elf replacements, then I removed their weapons and made claws from green stuff.

Now Werewolves were not on my list, but they were half done so it only seemed right that they should appear here when done. Half are Reaper Miniatures, and half are Mantic, all lovely models.

This is how far I've moved with the wraiths and the Liche model that I am hand making. After my relative success with the ghosts I thought, why not? have a go at them.

Finally the Witch Hunter figure I've been modeling is completed, I decided to remove the piece of cloth that was attached to his left hand, it was just getting in the way. Really enjoyed making him, lets see how it paints up.

Modeling Update 3

Thought I would try to include this list as it might help to focus my efforts on where I need to work. Had a busy weekend, lots to do round the house, not much time for modeling.

Da list:
4 Juggernauts with warrior riders
6 Deamonettes
3 Dragon Ogres
3 Beasts of Nurgle
6 Chaos Champions
3 Gorgons
1 Cockatrice
3 Giant Scorpions
4 Ghosts
5 Wights
10 Tomb Guards
3 Wraiths
10 Black Orc Champions
1 Liche

Some pictures of how I'm doing with village cottages. I have made more progress with the bottoms of the cottages, need to add sand walls and then some beams, then paint.

Not all 5 have had anything done to the roof sections, I have cut lengths of card to create the tiles , but this is the job that takes ages and that I really am not keen on.

Have added quite a bit to the 2 character models I'm making, more so on the witch hunter. I finished his shoulder pads and added little details like the book and seals.

The pit  fighter has had less done, I was more focused on the hunter above.

These 4 bases with sticks in them are set to become 3 Wraiths and a Liche, more tomorrow.

Apologies if you were hoping for more shots of the daemonettes, didn't get a chance to look at them at all.

Ghorgon

Took some pictures of my home made Ghorgon model a few days back. This model has been made a while, but never photographed mainly because it's another rare choice that I rarely use. Rares are what let the Beastman book down really. They would be fine at 175 points but 275 is just too much.

Anyway this model is all made from spit and polish as per usual. There are quite a few bits from my bits box in this model, but it was mainly made in same way the Cygor was.

It actually started life as a Greater Daemon of Khorne, but I decided to converted my own model. Who would have believed that.

Will update you on how all my present projects are doing tomorrow, need to take stock before I post.
