Anglo Saxons in 10 mm

Back in April I posted some pictures of the 10 mm card Vikings I had been making and it seemed only fair that the Anglo Saxons get the same treatment, so here they are.

This is the whole army and I can't see myself making any more as I'm concentrating on Later Romans at the moment and then Ancient Greeks will be getting the same. Plenty to get on with.

Orcs and Goblins: 30 mm Drawings

If I am going to be honest, which I am, these were drawn some time ago. Definitely in the last two months but had forgotten to post them.

These are very much inspired by the LOTR figures created by GW and apart from using them in D&D games I'm not that sure if they will come in handy anywhere else. 

I could definitely print them at 33% and use them to make 10 mm miniatures, however I'm not that keen to do that. 

Most of my 10 mm stuff has been focussed on historical miniatures.

Saxons, Vikings, Romans and the newest sheet I've been drawing, Ancient Greeks, which still need colouring so will be a while yet.

I enjoyed making these Goblinoid troops, but as soon as I had I realised I had nothing much to use them for.

Still they were fun to do and kept my eye in. Perhaps a use for them will present itself for them in the future.

Presently I'm very much in the process of reorganising my miniature collection. I have sold all my GW dark elves to Mirfield Miniatures along with my epic collection and various board games. Its been difficult to let them go, but I can't justify keeping boxes of models I haven't looked at for over 10 years.

I have been revisiting all my 3 mm fantasy armies to compensate for the loss of the larger stuff.

I intend selling off more later in the year.

Vikings in 10 mm

 

This is the first all card or paper 10mm army that I have made. There are approximately 350 individual models, mostly based in groups of 10 per base. These bases are 20 mm by 40 mm as per Warmaster.

Generals and lesser leaders I wanted to show were different so put them on hexagonal bases.

I intend using these to play games of Hannibal from Little Wars gaming club. Each pair of stands combine to create a unit, 40 mm by 40 mm

I have to say that cutting 350, 10 mm miniatures was a labour of love, but since they were pre-coloured at least there was no painting.

Easier to see the bases from this angle. Also possible for me to notice that I haven't put any grass tufts onto most of the bases...work still to do it seems!

I mount my paper models on black card, just my preference. I feel it gives each figure more contrast than a white which I think can look a bit insipid. My opinion, each to their own.

Why individuals I hear you say and not strips, wouldn't strips be easier? Well yes they would but you wouldn't get the feeling of depth with strips. Singles can be angled so that the base can be seen from various positions and still look interesting. More effort, but worth it I feel.

Before I glue the models down on the bases, made from packaging from "Nile", the well known international company, I bend the figure up the centre line on the model so either the centre line is foremost or the feet on the model are. It gives a slight sense of animation and makes them easier to glue down. Sometimes I turn models more side on to illicit even more animation. (Imagine!)

These Vikings are unusual for me because they were drawn in 15 mm and reduced by 33% on my printer. Since these were made I have only drawn in 30 mm and reduced by...

Makes a massive different to the detail, far easier to draw and colour.

Spot the lonely 10 man berserker stand loitering in the woods, means that at some point I will have to make a stand to complete them, can't leave them alone.

I have a few bits to complete on the Anglo Saxons, although a very similar army in many respects, and when they are complete will post some pictures.

Roman Miniatures: 30 mm and 10 mm

These are the hand drawn miniatures I showed last post, now completed and initially in 30 mm.

Both backs and fronts and each miniature is slightly bent to enable affixing to the base and to suggest a little more of a 3D feel.

I'll use these in my D&D games.

However these can be used in another scale, here they are copied to 10 mm and based on 20 by 40 mm bases.

These represent twice as many miniatures as the 30 mm copies, but its these I really drew the figures for. It makes them far more detailed than I could ever have made them draw straight in 10 mm.

I did once draw some in 15mm, but even then the details got lost, so I reverted to 30 mm. Also it allowed me  to create D&D miniatures at the same time.

Presently I have a sheet of LOTR style Orcs and goblins on the go, just need cutting and gluing.
