D&D: Reaper Kobolds

In my odd moments I have been painting a small set of Reaper miniatures, namely Kobolds.
I have to say I was very surprised just how small they were and how little detail there was, but they were not expensive so I really can't complain.

I used sand and glue over card for the bases.

I have never been very good at removing mould lines from figures and these have some interesting examples especially across their heads.

The colours were intentionally muted and I didn't use a wide variety of them, but then I never do.

Cork Construct

Had fun the other day creating this simple construct which will get used in both D&D and probably Rangers of the Shadow Keep.

Too give idea of size alongside an old GW dark elf.

As the Construct looked in its raw state.

The base is a disc of cat food box card with PVAcrete sculpted over.

Not a great bit of sculpting, in fact non at all in reality, but it will work as a one off model. Perhaps I'll try another, another time.

Mortal Gods: First Game

Last Wedneday Luke and I were very lucky to get the chance to play Mortal Gods on the brand new board we had made for the game.

If you visit the Mortal Gods/War Banner stand at shows next year you'll see the board being used as its touring with them. Mainly because it was made for them by Luke's APS.

Here are some pictures I took on the night of the game, there were 6 of us playing while Andy Hobday adjudicated the rules and gave us tips on play.

It was great fun to play and when the full rules are released in March I will be getting myself a set and will be doing some reports at various times.

We were set running in the end by a very neat use of a character in the flank and a frontal charge by the oppositions experienced Hoplites which exposed our leader to being mnipulated into a combat he could not win. Well not with me throwing the dice anyway:-)

The breaking of the phalanx.

Our Hoplites a mess.

At the last our Promochoi was dispatched by the rival warbands leader and the game was lost.

Shame its a bit out of focus.

We had a great night, lots of fun and very good company. I have to say thank you to Chris, Andy Mark and Vince for making us feel so welcome, cheers fellas.

Painting: Xmas/New Year Challenge

This set of old miniatures are going to be a core set of models I'm putting together for my son for him to play D&D with. There are many old models here but Tom really doesn't care too much about that. He very rarely plays with miniatures, in fact only when he's at my house!
But I know his friends like it, so I'm putting these together as a treat so that they have a few character models and a few monster types that can really represent any creature they fancy.

Character and larger creatures.

For general enemies Tom will never use creature specific models, he normally plays with coffee lids to represent PC's, so I have gathered 5 types 3 of each. Beastmen, dark elves, chaos warriors, orcs and goblins.

Need to change the goblin bases.

Now to get them painted :-)

I've also made him a simple 12" board to play on when the group are in combat.
If in the future he decides he would like some more then there are always birthdays :-)

D&D5e: Warehouse and Tenement Boards

These are the latest, but not necessarily last, building boards I've made for playing D&D in a more 3D environment. In fact I have used a couple of cat food boxes to create two more basic cottage builds, will post when all painted up.

These two boards are 6" by 12" about twice the size of all the others I have made so far.

Here I have added some of the furniture I've made to give a rough idea of how they look.

I can see these being used as the title suggests or as the basis for a mansion house, added to some of the other smaller tiles to create the upper class residence. (Ahm posh tha knows)

But mainly it gives me loads of other options, like creating a tavern or hotel environment without having to use my other more basic dungeon tiles.
