Frostgrave in 10 mm: Episode 1

These first two pictures just give an idea of how I've organised my play for 10 mm Frostgrave for solo play.  Dice tray on the left below terrain and weather cards. Middle I have my overall map of Calendara with blue marker showing our starting point (the village of Sagan) and the red where we intend travelling too. Lastly, there are the booklets I have been making to help with NPCs, locations, things to do as the game progresses.

Here is a shot of the character sheet I made for my warband, only 5 members as I wanted to keep running the game simple and also because all the characters will make progress in this game not just the wizard.

This is the expanded sheet to record the travelling portion of the game, a lot of this was made up on the fly although I have been thinking about how to achieve this for some time. Seemed to me I should just jump in a and play instead of procrastinating continually.

As the warband choose a direction and move the cards are used to reveal the terrain in that area, I had already started the first small hex so decided to continue from there. This meant the group were already on day 2 of their trip.

Having recorded the terrain the warband had to cross with 2 successful navigation rolls, morning and evening. This meant Brice, the thief, was responsible for direction of the party.
Brice needed to get above an 11 to be successful and managed it twice, so all went well. Also no doubles were rolled so there was no event.
The weather card indicated Intense heat at the start of the journey.

Day three saw a fail from Brice which meant an extra days travel, eating into supplies. Especially important considering the intense heat.

Day 5 saw the evening roll fail but on plus side Hudson managed to track down a boar so food was not a problem.

Day 7 ended in confusion again and despite Brice' +1 to navigation another day was lost, not going to plan at all but Anselem was keeping cool especially as the weather changed and a wind got up.

The warband had travelled through one complete large hex but were running low on supplies.

Day 9 and another day lost to Brice' incompetence and Hudson let the warband down by failing to bring any food to the table.

Day 10 and the situation is getting worse, Brice fails both navigation rolls and the warband is lost, random roll for direction takes them away from intended target, things are getting desperate on supplies front too.

Unfortunately there was also an event triggered. An NPC and a potential combat encounter with 4 Clingers. Lack of food has also meant that the warband go into this situation with 2 less Health and 1 less Will. They will be trying to avoid combat as much as possible and hopefully be able to rescue the NPC which may help with supplies, local knowledge and safety.

Sorry to leave this as a cliff hanger, will return to it in my next post.
There may well be loads of questions about this, I'll be happy to answer all I can.
I will include a little more background in the next post as well.
Thanks for reading.

Frostgrave Camp and Wagons in 10 mm

In the last two weeks I have been working on some small pieces of scatter terrain for my 10 mm Frostgrave game. You know what I'm doing, I'd rather make something else to enhance the game than actually get on and play. It is stupid...

I started by creating a camp for the gang to sleep in while travelling, something I intend doing, see last posts maps. I thought it might lead to some interesting night time situations/encounters.

The idea they might get attacked by wild beasts or ambushed by Gnolls or cultists really appeals to me.

Three tents, some barrels, crates and a fire makes a camp to my mind...

Of course a wagon to haul the tent and for future booty is essential. I do intend making a couple of horses to pull the thing sometime soon.

I didn't just make a single small wagon I went for it big style, in case a travelling caravan needs protecting or robbing in the future.

Also I few barrels had to be created to make the effect work. You can see how I get drawn into the whole process....can't help myself!

Just to turn things on their head, the caravan in this instance is owned by some orcs on the way too or from a brewery by the looks of things. The first wagon pulled by boars and the second by keen beer drinkers.

Looking to keep warm by our heroes fire. Hope it goes well for them all

The wagons not used in the exciting scenario above....the tension

Thank you for visiting my blog, it seems many of you do. Sometimes as many as 60,000 in a month which is astounding.
See you again soon.

Feywild Village/Town Designer Hexagons

These are a set of Hex tiles I designed to help me plan and create places in the Feywild. Map making only gets my pulse racing for the first couple and then it becomes a chore. With these I can make any number of towns, villages or even cities if I need them.

I drew out the originals and coloured them with pencils, then I photocopied them with my printer and cut a set out.

Those were then laminated and ready to use.

To create a place I blu tac them to a sheet of A4 hex paper, when I'm happy I photocopy them again and keep the copy.

Examples of the "tree" house set of tiles.

Below laid out to create a multilayered town up in the trees.

A mixture of the ground and tree hex's.

Three locations I have used in our games of D&D.
The Town of Adressin. I add notes to the map of prominent places and NPC homes/shops etc.

The Village of Aio.

The Village of Acron.

The Village of Rosasea, to which I added a little detail in the centre of the village for role play purposes.

The first colour rendition of the tiles.

Finally the original hand drawn tiles before colour was added. I always colour a copy, not the original just in case I screw it up.
