Feywild Terrain?

With my D&D group in the midst of a series of games in the Feywild I have been trying to create some terrain set pieces from the terrain I already have. Mrs Daxio is coming to the end of her tether as regards how many hills, forests and buildings we have in the house.

Here I was trying to create a large tree type structure, perhaps a bit Pandora like or Lothlorien ish.
I am not convinced, not that it might be useful, but that it might be unsafe really. Think that the lower "trunks" I created are just not large enough to support the upper sections how I would like. I recon one moment of excited movement and the whole lot could come tumbling down.

The boards that sit on top of the trunks are also a bit straight edged and don't quite work for me.

I think I will make some broader trunks and perhaps try to disguise the board edges, lichen maybe?
But if I can't do it easily I think I may forget the whole idea. Probably would only use it on one occasion anyway.

But if it works I could see myself using a set up like this to hopefully excite my players.

Its always difficult if you don't want to start creating new pieces of terrain, sometimes the result is a hotch-potch of poorly put together disparate parts. We will see!

Saga: Irish V Normans

Last week, or was it the week before, Mick came round to play a 6 point game of Saga. Something we have not done for quite some time. With the new Age of Magic newly released we were keen to review the rules in preparation for our first game with monsters, wizards and mayhem. But this is not that, this is our game between Mick's Normans and my Irish.

Here we are all deployed and ready to get stuck in, most of my Irish were clumped around the forest in front of me as you can see.

I was very concerned about the Norman cavalry, they definitely intimidate me in this game.

So the Normans go first and move up the field.

The Irish sort of occupy the wood, but are not convinced. Think that sums up how I play in this game, unconvincingly. You can just see my warlord stood on a wagon in the forest, muttering "for want of a donkey" or something like that anyway.

What was I doing with the dogs and why were my Hearthguard stood out in the open waiting to be shot!

The Normans had a good solid line.

With the approach of some Knights on my right, the dogs run away.

In the centre my Hearthguard tackle the second Knight unit and after a couple of goes run them down.

Finally gone. But at what cost! Only 2 left.

Despite trying to move out of the way the dogs get charged in the back side.

While on the left flank my mounted Hearthguard drive of the Norman warriors, but not very convincingly. They missed every javelin they threw the turn before, I should have known.

The dogs no longer need walking.

The Norman warlord mops up the Irish Hearthguard. Although the Irish warriors did see off the Norman crossbow unit, well done lads!

Then the Warlord gets his archers to shoot my warriors with javelins and they are decimated.

At this point I felt the game was lost, I was pretty much surrounded, remember there was a unit of Knights somewhere to my rear.

I decided to take a couple more pictures of Mick's nicely painted miniatures and throw in the towel.

A win for the Normans, well played Mick, very much deserved.
Cheers for the game is was great fun.

Saga Age of Magic: The Great Kingdoms

A very quick little post about Saga Age of Magic, which I am very excited about!!

Having got my copy of Saga Age of Magic, thought I might use some of my huge collection of Dark Elves as the Great Kingdom. Threw these few models together on new bases, this way they can be used in D&D as well as in Saga AOM.

Not going to get to play for a while but I am really looking forward to it. Have a load of quite old wood elf miniatures to use as the Lords of the Wild as well. Expect to see a load of posts showing how these 2 warbands shape up in the next month.

Barrels and Walkways

Built some basic barrels and walkways for my son and his D&D group to use in their games. They were fun to make and didn't take very long.

The walkways are made from, tapers, coffee stirrers and bamboo skewers.

The barrels are all made from Das mixed with PVA for some added flexibility and longer working time.

Looking back on these they could have been better, sorry Tom, so I may have to add some more details before he gets them. Always different seeing something you've made blown up on a screen in front of you. Brings out my critical side :-)
