D&D 5e: The Blue Boar Inn

Not exactly the beginning scene in our first game of D&D last night, but very close. The characters, detailed later, traveled to Sagan a small village on the Isle of Cal and after some hairy moments in the woods, they arrived at the Inn below for beers and food.

Mateus, the proprietor, and his wife Millie and their son Nob run the Blue Boar and seemed a friendly bunch, although our heroes night of repose was interrupted by the news that the wizard Morpius had been murdered and his daughter Arianne, kidnapped. The quest begins...

I used the same method of making the interior building walls as I did the dungeon wall set, just modeled wood and plaster instead.

The base was a bit last minute for the session on Saturday but have some board sections I'll use in the future.

What I like about this is that I can make a whole variety of Inns and Taverns from this set and a few more bits and they are very "playable", but still give the feel of a building. Also I had this all set up on the base so when the players entered the Inn it was instant, I didn't have to spend 5 minutes building the thing- hate that.

All the tables and chimney, food, barrels etc I made for Quest some years ago, knew they would come in handy again :-)

Made a new bespoke front door, all good fun.

Mateus behind the bar, Millie serving drinks and locals having a brew. Oh and the largest bucket in all Christendom stood on the bar?

D&D 5e: New Campaign

Just before Xmas last year we began a new D&D campaign with Lee as our game master again, he does a great job. I posted a couple of times about some of the characters that I was involved in creating models for, mainly my character Manny Ram.

This campaign saw us setting off as a group of disgruntled pirates who decided to mutiny and throw their useless captain overboard. Unfortunately our captain worked for a pirate overlord who sent a faster ship to bring us back into the fold. We narrowly managed to escape.

The most recent session we had saw us held up at a small island, looking for an artifact of some sort among the jungle communities.

This has been making me think more and more about the game that started me playing fantasy games back in 1975 when when I was 13. It really has been my first love for a very long time but there have been years where I have not played at all and certainly not GM ed. Well it seems that this has all changed and shortly I will be starting to GM a campaign of my own. I have to say I'm quite nervous, as I want to do a good job for the players.

I will be doing some campaign logs and taking some pictures to show how it is progressing. One inspiration for me has to be Lee for GM ing so many exciting and thought provoking games over the last year and the other is Matthew Colville whose You Tube channel is excellent, can't recommend it enough.

I will be posting maps, character info, NPC info and campaign updates as often as I can, along with pictures of the sessions.

At the same time I will be posting occasionally about our games with Lee in his campaign world too.

This is all tempered by the fact that I am helping out over at Lukes APS 3 or 4 days a week, hence the time I have for making and posting my own stuff has been cut into. I will post some pictures of some of our most recent commissions from there too.

I am really pleased that I'm getting this chance to return to my first love and playing D&D, look forward to many fun games. Cheers for reading.

Saga: The Irish are on the warpath

A little while ago I bought an Irish warband from Footsore Miniatures, they really appealed to me as the models are all individual, then I noticed some hounds for sale on Ebay and now have a 5 point list developing. (not all the hounds are individual)

Started to put them together and here I am so far. Still a way to go.

Non of the models come with bases, so I got down to cutting my own.

Warhounds, which count as warriors.

Chieftain.

The whole warband, all their bases made and built up ready to be undercoated.

Hearthguard.

Warriors. Luckily I had a load of spears left over from my GB Vikings box set otherwise they would be like the undercoated figure at the rear with wire spear.

Hearthguard.

Warriors.

Warhounds.

Chieftain.

The whole warband all ready to be undercoated. Next month sees the release of the new Saga rules and I am looking forward to getting my hands on those.

Lastly, I'm going to create my slingers, levi, from some left over Foundry Greeks. Here's my first attempt. Should take the list to 6 points in total.

I added, the sling, too large presently, his extra hair, still needs more adding to the front, and I added a bag for his ammunition.

Still looks too Greek or even Egyptian at the moment. This will be the last unit I make for a while.

Beers of War: A New Hop

It was the ever popular Beers of War series of tournaments again this weekend, sadly I could not play for one reason or another but I did get to pop along yesterday and spend some time chatting with Lee,  Luke and Chris which was nice and got to take some pictures of the games.

Loads of fantastic armies and plenty of smart terrain from Lukes APS and gaming mats from Pworks.

Very much quieter day Sunday, it was Kings of War singles, the Saturday seeing a 40K doubles and KOW doubles games too, where, by all accounts, a lot of beer was consumed. So sore heads on Sunday :-)

D&D 5e: Dungeon Walls Update and 1000th Post

This is officially my 1000th post, imagine that :-)
This is all the wall sections I am going to make for my games of D&D 5e, I think I listed them all last time I posted on this subject, although I don't think I added in the doors I have been making, there will be 14 of those in total.

I have been using lots of odds and ends to create the door feel, to give a bit variety and I will paint some of them differently to give further variance.

The longest, 12" sections.

Doorways, using lolly sticks, matchsticks, skewers and coffee stirers.

The finished doorway and some of the wall sections and what you can do with them. No crude suggestions please. The base is the unfinished cork placemat board I was making for Frostgrave but not finished, I think the walls work well on them.

Well, there you are, my 1000th post and I have to say that I am still enjoying producing the blog and have plans for all sorts of content in the future.

I am always open to suggestions too so if you have a particular "thing/topic" you want me to make/cover then make a comment and I'll see what I can do :-)
